Beschreibung
The Soka Gakkai recently published the Sanskrit Lotus Sutra Manuscript from the British Library (Or. 2204), Facsimile Edition, the ninth part in its ongoing Lotus Sutra Manuscript Series. The Soka Gakkai originally commissioned the Institute of Oriental Philosophy (IOP), Tokyo, Japan, to coordinate the publication of facsimiles and romanized texts of Lotus Sutra manuscripts in cooperation with various academic institutions and leading experts. The efforts aim to promote and facilitate the study of the Lotus Sutra manuscripts written on palm-leaf, paper and other materials, and preserved in various places around the world.
Since 1997 with publication of Series 1, Sanskrit Lotus Sutra Fragments from the Lushun Museum Collection, Facsimile Edition and Romanized Text, a total of 11 works have been published, including Fragments of a Manuscript of the Saddharmapundarikasutra from Khadaliq (2000); and Sanskrit Lotus Sutra Manuscript from the Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland (No. 6), Romanized Text (2007).
The 11th work of the series is the facsimile edition of a manuscript from Nepal that belongs to the British Library. It is a faithful color-printing reproduction of the text as it is at the Library. The photographs were supplied by The International Dunhuang Project of the Library (http://idp.bl.uk). The manuscript is the precious document that was used as an original text for collating the Kern-Nanjio edition (1908-1912), the first critical edition of the Sanskrit Lotus Sutra. [Soka Gakkai]
